May 19th CKA Meeting

on Fri, 05/11/2012 - 20:35

Your May 19th CKA Meeting will feature

Bob Steinbach will be sharing ideas on Summer Propagation of Aquarium Plants. As such he is coaching us on how to really be able to fill our aquariums with plants for the rest of 2012.

Bob will also be offering for sale some of his remarkable marsh flora such pitcher plants.

We are meeting at Mack's Golden Pheasant Restaurant 668 W. North Avenue Elmhurst, IL 60126 630-279-8544 http://www.macksgoldenpheasant.com/index1.shtml

Please notice the starting time is 1 pm.

One piece of business we will do is select a show class of killies (all other old world, “Rivulus”, South American annuals, Scriptaphyosemion (et al), Epiplatys, A. biv (Chromaphyosemion) group, A. elberti, hera groups, North Americans other than Rivulus.

As usual we will have the mini-auction, featuring killies, plants, food culture starts, killie eggs, killie keeping equipment and more. Great prices for buyers, also 100% of the bid go to the seller.

Looking ahead:

In June we hope to have a delegation collecting with the Michiana aquarium club over the free fishing weekend for Michigan.

In July it will be time to elect new members to the CKA board as terms run out for two board members. Please consider if you are able to work to promote the hobby. The last 12 months have seen some significant & positive changes in how the CKA had operated. As usual our success is dependent upon the number of active board members we elect to serve and how well we as members & board work with each other.

Plastic fish bags will be for sale. Please feel free to bring eggs, pairs or groups of killies, young killies, food culture starts, killie plants and other aquarium flora or killie-keeping gear for the MINI-AUCTION. As usual 100% of the proceeds go to the seller.

New and renewing CKA memberships are still an inflation busting $10. A family membership is $15.

************ There is still plenty of room at the AKA National Convention Memorial Day Weekend in St. Louis. Nationals offer more chances to meet other killie keepers, to view more killies and to purchase more different species & strains than any other time of the year.

We in the CKA hope to have the opportunity to attend a native fishes collecting trip during the Michigan free fishing days (no license needed) in June.

The July 21st meeting will be a species round-table. Featured will be ....

The August CKA picnic will be at Ruth's on Saturday, August 18th. Plan on bringing one of those special dishes to pass.

We hope to have at least one special event in the fall

Please remember to set aside Sept 15th & Nov 17th for meetings

ChiKA 12 Club Meeting March 17, 2012

http://chika.drupalgardens.com

The Chicago Killifish Association (ChiKa) would like to invite you to participate in our 1st Killifish Plus Box Sale on March 18, 2012. What is a Killifish Plus Box Sale? Besides Killifish we are planning to include other aquatic related items such as plants, foods, equipment and non-killifish fish. We will also welcome frogs, amphibians and legal smaller critters. We will not be accepting retailers, as our space is much more limited than what is available at a Swap Meet. The split will be 70/30 split to seller/ChiKA.

Sellers and buyers are also welcome to attend our expanded March 17, 2012 meeting, featuring multiple speakers, mini-auction, raffles and hospitality social.
